I expanded on the game’s original concept to help build a fully realized world with distinct lore, tone, and environmental storytelling. Working closely with the team lead, I developed multiple iterations of narrative ideas that shaped the art direction, environmental hazards, and encounter design, ensuring each element felt cohesive within the world of Goo Grinder.
I wrote over sixty unique death messages displayed in the UI, using dark humor and “goopy” charm to transform every defeat into a moment of revealing more about the world and the character's personality.
My work was rooted in detailed research on planetary chemistry and ecology. I explored academic sources to discover how chemicals interact with each other on a both a macro- and microscale to discover what a realistic composition of our alien planet and the biology of its inhabitants could look like. This research inspired new worldbuilding concepts, hazards, and collectibles.
I collaborated across departments to align lore and visual tone, contributing narrative context to deepen the game’s mix of absurd humor and eerie, cosmic atmosphere.
